Controlling and Institute Finance Employee (m/f/d)
The Helmholtz Institute for One Health (HIOH) Greifswald is a branch of the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI). Here, researchers investigate the connections between human and animal health and their environment. Our goal is to better understand zoonotic diseases, antimicrobial resistance, and the evolution of pathogens, thereby contributing to the prevention of pandemics. Founded in 2021, the institute, with its international and interdisciplinary teams in a total of five research groups, is a beacon for innovative One Health research in one of the most beautiful regions of Germany—right on the Baltic Sea.
As a Controlling and Institute Finance employee, you will support the administrative director, Dr. Till Suchsland, and the administrative team members. You will be part of an international institute and enjoy the challenge of contributing to the varied day-to-day work of the HIOH and working in a team- and solution-oriented manner.
Responsibilities:
- Operational processing of the institute's ongoing financial and project controlling, including monitoring and tracking project budgets
- Creation, maintenance, and further development of draft business plans and budget overviews
- Conducting regular target/actual analyses, variance analyses, reporting, and deriving recommendations for action
- Performing cost calculations and profitability analyses
- Supporting the regular financial planning of the scientific departments
- Supporting the management of the HIOH sub-business plan during the year, including budget transfers
- Working closely with project managers and administrative units
- Collaborating on projects to further develop internal controlling tools and reporting processes – in cooperation with the specialist departments where necessary
Requirements:
- Completed bachelor's degree in controlling, business administration, financial management, administrative sciences, or a comparable qualification
- Confident handling of numbers/calculations and strong analytical skills
- Experience in science management or third-party funding is an advantage
- At least basic knowledge of the English language
- Experience with controlling tools or ERP systems
- Very good IT user skills and confident use of all standard MS Office products and electronic communication channels
- Strong communication skills and enjoyment of cross-team collaboration
- High reliability, sense of responsibility, and integrity
- Structured, independent, careful, methodical, cooperative, and transparent way of working
