The department Mikrobielle Wirkstoffe/Microbial Drugs on the Helmholtz Centre for Infection Research (HZI), is looking for a 

 

 

Bachelor thesis position

 

 

 

You will be introduced to the processes in the MWIS department at a renowned research institution and learn the basics of day-to-day.

 

Responsibilities:

  • cultivating of fungal organisms
  • performing DNA/RNA sequencing for fungal identification
  • conducting phylogenetic analyses
  • screening for secondary metabolites using HR-ESI-LC/MS
  • extracting and isolating of secondary metabolites
  • conducting bioassays for the identification of potential drug candidates

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's student in Biology, Chemistry, Biotechnology, Pharmacy or related fields
  • demonstrated interest in mycology and natural product discovery
  • independent and structured way of working
  • hard-working, reliable and a strong team player 
  • good communication skills in English

Advantageous for this position:

  • practical experience in handling of microorganisms
  • practical experience in DNA/RNA extraction and quantification
  • knowledge of chromatographic techniques
